T40p -- Odd behaviour in UT2003

Hey all,
Just got my IBM T40p with the 64MB FireGL 9000 mobile video and 1.6GHz Pentium M.
UT2003 runs fine, but at times, in specific parts of the map (normally not those you would expect), I seem to slow down. Frame-rates stay high, but I seem to move from running to walking and then speed back up again.
No idea what's going on. Drivers are up to date and the system is perfectly stable.
If anyone has ideas, please let me know.
Thanks!

You likely have some program (service, OS component) periodically waking up and doing something while you're playing, taking a lot of CPU time, hence the slowdown.

azazello,

Thanks, but I don't think that's it. Primarily because I disables the background stuff and the frame-rates don't drop during the slow-down, just my rate of movement. Everything around me is still moving at full speed.

Any other ideas? Could it be UT2K3 support for the Pentium M is not 100%?

i have a similar problem with my T40P...Running game called devastation. Charater ould be running down the hallway and slow down
as I need to make a corner. I had some issues when I loaded this game with other drivers etc and have since re formated my drive,
but have not reloaded the game yet.

Will post more if I learn more

Thanks ES135. I'll keep you posted of developments at my end too.

Which drivers are you using?

I know I will get beaten for this, but I claim ignorance. Could it be your graphics card? I know the FireGL is quality. But it's a workstation graphics card and not a gaming card. Perhaps it has a problem with some of the 3d rendering?

I suppose it's possible, but the internals are the same as an Radeon 9000 (AFAIK).

Any thougths on Oblivious' suggestion?
