T400 - intermitent pink vertical line 1/3 from left edge of screen

I'm getting a pink vertical line about 1/3 of the way from the left side of the screen. It goes away if it tap it or move the screen, which suggests to me it could be a loose connection on the motherboard.

Before I download the personal system reference and start taking the whole thing apart, has anyone gotten this before and been able to rectify it on their own?

If it's due to something being frayed or worse I'll just call support and have them fix it.

had that with a thinkpad T400 too -- loose contact somewhere... throw it back to lenovo for warantee service

Generally it's a defective LCD (cased by a circuit crack or bad transistor that takes out one or more vertical pixel rows). I have seen in these forums one case in which it turned out that re-seating the ribbon connector from MB to screen fixed the issue so that's worth a try. Otherwise you'll probably need to replace the LCD, but you might be able to get that part now days for even under $100.

I'll try re-seating the ribbon and see if that fixes things.

The issue had some strange symptom last night. I was watching a tv show on the notebook, and when i moved the computer from my kitchen table to the coffee table, the jolting caused the screen to freeze but the movie was still playing (i could hear the audio). I just gave the screen a tap and it was working fine.
