T40 video problems in 3D apps after windows update

Asking for anyone's help to track down the problem.

about a week ago, i updated my T40 video drivers (radeon 9000) from the windows update site. After i did so, every game that i launch (UT 2004, Vice city...) plays for about 10 seconds fine, and then the whole screen is covered with fast moving blue lines and *misrendered triangles*.

Notes of what i did:

Didn't have a resotre point for that day, because i found the problem a few days later.
Tried reinstalling all the T40 drivers for the past 2 years all of them have this problem.
If i remember correctly, the same day that i got the drivers i also got Directx9 security update from windows update ( i reinstalled DX9 also, no help)

It seems that games play wihout any of the blue lines on battary power..if i plug back in, the lines appear!

any help is appreciated.

well all i can say is that you NEVER install any driver updates from windows update.
They will screw you up everytime.
