i was lookin into gettin a new t40/t41, and i had a question about the higher screen res? how big is the text on the higher res screen? and what can a higher res screen do better than a lower res cannot, i won't be playing game on it, but i will be surfing web/playing online card games....

so any way i can test 'em out?

I have the 1024x768 and I think it's perfect for me. But my eyes aren't so young anymore. 😕 I have 1280x1024 on my 19" LCD for comparison. The sales rep told me that unless you're doing CAD or stuff like that the lower res is ok. I use it for surfing, email, biz apps. no gaming.

I've 1400*1050 on the Inspiron 8100. Tried 1024*768 and there's just not enough desktop space. Scrolling up and down is good enough for me, don't want to scroll left and right as well.

The T40/41 models don't go to the higher res level until you're looking at the more pricier levels.

I would personally opt for the high rez screan just so you have more space. You can always turn the fonts up if you are having a hard time seeing them. Personally I think the standard rez (1024) is a bit small for the thinkpad's 14" monitor. But it really comes down to personal prefrence and what you want to spend. IIRC the higher rez screan isn't that much more... you can get it on most models...

I agree, well I just got a T41 with the SXGA+ screen and I don't think its too hard to look at the smaller fonts, I watched a DVD on it and it looked great. Oh man I'm loving it right now

alright, it seems i'l go for the better screen, for 1800 off newegg, but i think i'm gona order both a 1024 screen and the higher res screen from ibm, and then return them both after testing 'em out and get the one from newegg, 'cuz they have good prices on the t40's and t41's

does anyone know if ibm charges a restocking fee? what about s/h for returns?

why don;t you call IBM and see if they have a 'business partner' (reseller) in your area, where you can go in and look at them, rather than creating 2 refurbs for IBM?

Yeah I definitely don't like that idea. I'm sure there is a place you could go to check out the screans without going to all that trouble and dishonesty (sp?). Are there any colleges around you... they might have a computer store. I know IBM works with a lot of colleges so it might be worth a shot. I know we personally get nice discounts on them here at Penn State... Cant wait for next year when I get mine. Hoping the T42 comes out by then... already some places showing it (with dothan processor and 15" screan option).
