T40/T40P Radeon OpenGL Tab?

I have a T40P and recently, I started punishing the system with games. But the Control Panel is completely missing a OpenGL tab - it just does not exist. Is there a reason or did something goof on my system?

Also, are there any other drivers that work better for the FireGL 9000? A lot of options like TRUEFORM and other options seen in desktop solutions don't show up. Also, IBM doesn't update very often and I'm wondering if there's anything we can do about that.

Thanks in advance guys.

The OpenGL tab for the FireGL is the "Configuration" tab. If you want to get a regular OpenGL tab, you will need to install a normal Cat. driver with mod tools. You can find a mod tool for mobility chipset at www.rage3d.com. Goto the Forum and the Radeon Mobility section. It is sticky overthere so you should find it very easily.

Mocca -

Did you personally have any luck in modding any of the Mobility Drivers? I haven't gotten any to work (including Patje's at driverheave.net).

With T40 (32MB M9), I can mod the Cat 3.4 and install it fine but I've never tried this on the FireGL9000. SHould not be a problem though.

Mocca -

If you get a chance to try it, let me know... When I tried it, my system had a complete meltdown - Windows registered hundreds of errors.

Good thing I had a ghost backup on CD. Anyway, if do try it, make sure you have a system partition backup also...

:)

By the way, feel free to e-mail me at esaleris at myrealbox.com (avoiding spambots) about any other questions.. Like a T40 support group of sorts...

I just mod and install the Cat 3.5 drivers and it is not very good. I lose the OpenGL tab entirely (I also install the new Cat 3.5 ATI Control panel so I'm not sure if this is the source of the problem). There is no performance increase (based on 3DM2k1SE). If you want to try the Cat 3.5, make sure you set a restore point before you do the mod and install the driver. Because in my case, the standard OpenGL setting (i.e., for ProE and Maya) disappears after I reinstall the IBM FireGL driver.
