T40 Display missing pixel (0,0) NOW FIXED!

My T40 has the XGA display (1024x768), and I have noticed that the upper left hand corner pixel (0,0) never displays anything.

At first, I thought the pixel might be dead, but I ran the following experiment:

(1) I set the screen NOT to expand at a lower resolution. This means if I told the display to run in 800x600 mode, it would only use an 800x600 portion in the center of the screen (rest of screen is black band).

(2) I set the resolution to 800x600. And Guess what? The pixel in the upper left corner of the displayed area is not shown!

IBM support staff claim not to know what is going on.

Illustration:

+ = pixel where image is displayed, * = no image displayed, - = sidebands

when the screen is runing in full mode, it doesn't display at (0,0)

when the screen is running at a lower res, but set NOT to expand, the (0,0) pixel still isn't displayed (left black). I know this pixel isn't dead because in full mode it is working...

It's a driver problem. I've seen that pixel not work with an older driver on my 1400x1040 in native, I've seen two pixels not work in non-native (800x600 scaled up it was I think), and right now it's working in native (24bpp).

What model ThinkPad do you have and what driver are you using?

Mine is a type 2373 (with Radeon 7500) and the driver revision is 7.933.2.1-031120a-0124xxE (January 20th, latest driver).

237358U (fyi all T40s are 2373); not sure about the driver revision. The version on ati2dvag.dll is 6.14.0010.6392, and the date is from 2003, so it's older than yours. I had the pixel bug, and now it's gone.

I uninistalled the IBM Radeon 7500 drivers, and then reinstalled them. For some reason, the missing pixel at (0,0) is now being displayed!

😀
