Have an HP DV8000 T2250 @ 1.73ghz.

Maybe this is a really bad question, sorry, bu this is the first Duo CPU I've ever experienced. The systems been running extremely slow lately.

I downloaded the latest CPU-Z and gave it a run. It's reporting the Core Speed at 798Mhz. It actually shows 1.7xxghz for a second or two then drops to 798mhz. [Edit: Also noticed it originally shows a multiplier of 13x, then drops to 6x - as well as voltage going from 1.3 to 0.9]Wha?? I figured maybe it was some sort of power saving mode, but can't find anything.

Any ideas?

speedstep or C1E state, perfectly normal. clock speed will go back to full speed when you put the CPU under load.

It's most likely SpeedStep, or whatever Intel calls it, that ratchets down clock and voltage when CPU usage is low. Run something that loads the CPU, and while its running, verify that CPU-Z reports the max clock speed to be sure.

Yes, it is a power saving feature. It's named Intel Enhanced SpeedStep technology. Depending on the demand, the clock speed and voltage can change from a set certain point to the maximum speed. It would show 1.7GHz for a brief moment loading up CPU-Z since loading up the program is a demand. So shortly after that it goes back to the lowest clock speed, which in your case is 800MHz.

If you want to turn it off, just change the windows power settings from battery mode to like performance mode. I think you might also be able to turn speedstep off from your BIOS if you can ever access it.
