Today the final specs for Artisan's upcoming re-re-release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day arrived and they confirmed a long-running rumor that the DVD would include a high-definition version of the film using a Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 file.

This may sound strange to you, but it is actually quite cool. Microsoft has developed a low-bitrate HD compression codec that is just now being experimented with on some Artisan DVDs. It allows high-def quality video on the same amount of disc space as a regular single-layer DVD.

This is actually kinda cool but I won't be paying for yet another T2 DVD.

wo'nt that make it even easier to copy the file off the DVD and pirate it??

I wondered about that too. WM9 will be required to play it and it does have DRM built in so who knows.

heh even with DRM, it seems nuts. I mean, how long do you think it'd take for them to find a work around/crack for DRM? After you do that, you have the file right there to do whatever with, no? At least with a normal DVD they have to go through the work of ripping and compressing it. Crazy peeps I say.

Why nuts? Maybe the movie companies are starting to learn that copy protection doesn't work. People will buy products when they're much better than the free versions offered.

You think anyone is going to be uploading the 5GB WM9 version any time soon?

COOL!!!! T2 Extreme Turbo Ultra Edition with THX Enhanced Mega Bonus Special Uncut Director's Edition Version DVD in 3D goggles. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

There's a 9.4GB version of The Two Towers that's ALL OVER the internet.

Yeah but doesn't mean many people are going to download it or know that it even exists! I didn't!

TTT will still get loads of sales.......

People will want to watch it on a big tv on DVD.

He basically said that people wouldn't be interested in a 5GB version of T2 and I'm just stating that there is already a demand for DVD images online, why would this be any different?

you can watch TTT on a big TV on DVD... it's a 9 GB DVD image that is floating around. But you are right....TTT will still get lots of sales; I watched it twice in the theater...I'm gonna buy the extended edition DVD when it is released, so by having the screener DVD, they are not losing any money from me... I just get a little extra viewing pleasure. As for Terminator 2, it has already made a boatload of money...this is just extra revenue from the same release.
