T1i / 500D Owners - Magic Lantern Test

Finally, Magic Lantern for the T1i / 500D has progressed to the point where it is really function. If you aren't familar with it, Magic Lantern is a custom firmware. It's been out for a lot of Canon DSLRs.

Most of the functions work, and a big benefit is the extra quality to he had from video recording using QScale.. This is a feature that adjusts the bitrate of the video recorded.

I've run a test, and there is marked improvments in the fine details of the recordings.

I bought my T1i almost 2 years ago now, mostly for the video recording capabilities. And now with Magic Lantern out, I don't feel too left behind by the T2i / T3i.

Thanks for the link. I have the T2i but I am still learning about all the settings with Magic Lantern little by little.

Me too. I haven't fiddled much with Silent pic, but that looks interested. Focus Peak is a fantastic feature though.. No more squinting to see what the focal point 😛

Magic lantern has a lot of stuff, most that I haven't tried. But there is liveview enhancements for zooming and focusing --- Zebra Stripes, which will add a colored stripping to areas of a shot that are over exposed or under exposed, Magic Zoom, which adds a zoomed preview box, Focus Peak, which adds a tracing to whatever is actually in focus. There is also full white balance control, instead of the limited selections Canon gives you.

Some of the shooting enhancments include HDR photos, Motion detected shutter, audio detected shutter...
