I am wondering if there would be much of a performance diffrence between the Core solo T1400 and the Core 2 Duo E6300 in terms of gaming. I don't usually multi task and dont have any programs running in the background.

Since both processors are almost the same except the C2D is obviously dual-core and has FSB 1066 while the Core Solo is single core and is FSB 667 but I dont think FSB makes a big diffrence.

The reason why I am considering the T1400 is that I can get it very cheap while the e6300 is $200+ CDN. I can also get a s479 mobo fairly cheap.

The e6300 also comes with a higher multiplier of x11 I think, the T1400 is x7 multi.

Anyway I plan on playing some of those high end games like Crysis etc, so if dual core really provides a huge performance benefit I will forget the T1400, but if both are somewhat similar then I could definatly save a good chunk of money going this route.

e6300 + cheapest mobo I can find = ~$300 CDN
T1400 + ASUS N4L-VM Dh = ~$150-$200 (depending how cheap I can get the T1400)

The rest of my setup is o.k. 8800GTS 2GB of ram.

Hmm i did not know about the E4300 seems like a very reasonable option problem is I doesn't seem to be widely available in Canada yet.

I think it makes more sense to stick with 775 platform since 479 seems to be dead. Now I just have to find pricing for the E4300.

Newegg (which does not ship to Canada) has it for $179USD shipped, or with a copy of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for $184.

Considering an E6300 is $187 at the Egg, I'd probably just go with that. However, the price of the E4300 hopefully will come down soon, esp. when the E6320 replaces the E6300.

NCIX.com has the E4300 for $230CAD, which to me is high, as they list the E6300 for $235CAD.

E4300 are available in canada, in montreal at least they are available. The T1400 is not the best choice. If you are going to build a gaming rig with an 8800GTS and 2GB of ram... go for the Processor that is made to go with. The E4300 or E6300 is the choice.
