Looks like there's signs that Buffalo might vie for the "most shocking NFL team" title...

(Relevant portions bolded)

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP)?Terrell Owens wants Michael Vick to be reinstated immediately by the NFL, and said any extension of the quarterback?s suspension would be similar to ?kicking a dead horse.?

Speaking after the Buffalo Bills training camp practice Sunday morning, the star receiver referred to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell?s handling of Vick?s status as ?unfair.? Owens also lobbied to have more of the league?s high-profile players voicing their opinion in support of Vick and asked the NFL Players Association to become more involved.

?I think he?s done the time for what he?s done. I don?t think it?s really fair for him to be suspended four more games,? Owens said, referring to reports that the NFL is considering to further punish Vick. ?It?s almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground. ? The guy?s already suffered so much. And to add a four-game suspension on a two-year prison sentence, that?s ridiculous.?

Vick met with Goodell this week but has yet to learn when he will be allowed to resume his NFL career. The former Falcons star was suspended indefinitely in August 2007 after he admitted bankrolling a dogfighting operation.

Vick has served a 23-month federal sentence and was freed from home confinement on July 20. He must still serve three years? probation.

Owens said Vick deserves a second chance.

?Why shouldn?t he? I mean, there?s a lot more guys around the league that have done far more worst things than that and gotten second chances,? Owens said.

Owens said he would welcome Vick as a teammate.

?Michael Vick is a guy that really hasn?t any character issues besides what he got a prison sentence for, so why not?? he said.

Bills safety George Wilson, the team?s NFLPA representative, agreed with Owens.

?How do you bring a man out of suspension and then suspend him again? I mean, he?s paid his debt,? Wilson said. ?I think you just continue to hold him down by bringing him back and then suspend him.?

Wilson said he intends to discuss Vick?s status with Owens and other teammates to determine whether to bring the Bills players? position to the union.

?We?ll see where it goes, but I think Terrell is right in stating his position,? Wilson said. ?This is an instance where perhaps our players association needs to try to get involved.?

The union?s position has been that it will support Vick on a personal level until Goodell decides how to proceed. NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith met with Vick this past week, and intends to discuss the player?s status with Goodell.

The Bills have declined comment on discussing Vick.

Sounds like... quite possibly... due to what's said and unsaid, Vick's return to the NFL could very well be with....... Buffalo?!

BTW: T.O., nice way to thank the person who lobbied to bring you to the team - yeah, Trent Edwards.

That would be absolutely hilarious if Vick goes to the Bills, but i agree, the nfl shouldn't punish him further, there are players in the league who KILLED ***PEOPLE*** who weren't punished as much as he was.

I'd say its more likely he gets signed by a team as a receiver or kick return specialist than a QB. I'd think his only chance at playing QB in the near future would be if he went to the UFL, which frankly wouldn't be a bad idea for both in my opinion.

It's easy to point this out, and ignore this:

I made no comment regarding such people, as I have no knowledge of who they are, what they did, when they did such, et cetera.

Yeah, it's like how the swine flu killed, what 80 people? And it was a HUGE epidemic, but 30k+ are killed from the flu yearly.

I think he will return, I still don't "like" him for what he did...but who cares, if he plays well, and quits the dog fighting shit, he'll be fine.

I used to like watching in back when he played college, he was crazy...

I just think its weird/unfair that a criminal is basically getting his job back. If Joe Smoe did something like that do you think he coudl go back to company XZY he used to work for and get a job in a dif. department? Just because Vick is a great athlete, and in general other NFL players get to come back to play is redic IMO.

We had a guy who got fired for forwarding a dirty email. He's tried to come back about 3-4 times and each time it gets squashed. Been many years now.

Someone will want him. Not until they let him back in. I personally thought he was overrated with ATL, but he's been the poster bitch for some federal prosecuter who wanted to make a name for him/herself. In the grand scheme of things, dog fighting should be the least of the justice system's worries.

I don't remember reading anything about trent edwards lobbying for TO. No team will sign vick until they can see what he can actually do, regardless of whether he gets suspended anymore games or not. He hasn't played football, had good nutrition and workout for nearly 2 years.

Honestly none of owen's comments says anything about trashing Edwards. People are just making a big deal because well TO said it. No one would care if some other person made the same comments.

I don't really care for Vick before. I didn't think he was that great. Goodell has some tough thinking ahead. Vick will bring some bad PR. but if you suspended him a long time with no contract he might be enticed to join the UFL. Why allow a rival league a star(assuming he can still play)

I dont see Vick coming back as a QB able to compete but more of a RB who can throw decently.

EDIT: WR would work too.

Killing a person whether intentional or by accident is a bit different than forcing a dependant person/creature into a blood sport.

Not saying animals are more important than people, but I can understand another man killing someone he caught in bed with his wife a lot more than some dickhead that sits at home decapitating dogs and cats.

Vick (right now) has absolutely no interest in going to the UFL for one and only one reason: Salary Cap. UFL players are capped at something like 600k, and Vick seriously thinks he's still worth a multimillion dollar contract.

I have this distinct feeling that once he gets a reality check from the NFL when teams start offering him sub-million dollar contracts, he'll go to the UFL anyway since at least he's just about guaranteed a starting QB spot.

As far as competition goes - the UFL will be a joke. Running concurrently with the NFL season, being such a short season, and right now their marque player being JP Losman... yeah, that just about sums it up.
