http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/t-mobile-upgrading-hspa-network-to-42mbps-this-year/

Seems like T-Mobile's fed up with claims that its network isn't truly 4G -- starting today, it's doubling the bandwidth of HSPA+ to 42 megabits per second as promised. They've conducting a live test in Las Vegas on the CES 2011 stage, playing some online multiplayer Need for Speed, but it won't be limited to the City of Sin for long -- fully two-thirds of its existing 200 million HSPA+ subscribers will find blazing transfer speeds by the end of the year as the improvements roll out. Next stop -- 650Mbps.

So many decisions and possibilities to replace my aging Droid 1. :D Love it.

There you go fear mongering again! What did Tmo ever...wait...you posted a positive thread?

Come to Tmo. As long as you get coverage where you live, you will not be unhappy.

I'm actually dropping them due to high prices (they nickel dime you hard on text messaging and data fees) and absolutely abysmal customer service.

Really?!?

Unlimited texting.... nickel and dime you how? Unlimited data (with no cap, just throttled speeds) nickel and dime you how?

Oh, and rated #1 in customer service. *shrugs*

Really? Most people rave about their cu service. Most of the rants I hear about about their spotty data coverage.

I switched from T-Mobile to Sprint last year and their customer service was fine but yes their coverage really was lacking.

If they really can do >40Mb on their network, I'll stop cringing when I see those 4G advertisements. 42Mb is faster than my fiber optic connection at home... that's amazing.

:) Just twisting your goat

T-Mobile was a bit slow on the 3G uptake, and they still don't have a massive 3G footprint, but if you're in an area with HSPA+, it really is awesome. This will only make it better.

I too live in the valley of the sun! Unfortunately I get very shoddy service at my new place, so I'll be switching to Verizon. Customer service has always been excellent with T-Mobile.

I dropped TMobile, and miss their customer service, they're the best in the business, and the only reason I kept them for so long...

Quick question, on my G2 it usually says HSDPA, is that HSPA+ or something else? I've got conflicting answers to that when ive asked.

I think one of those LG's will be Tegra 2's and headed to T-mobile. When that happens, I see my switch from VZ to tmo occurring then.

HSDPA+ is the same basic 3G HSDPA technology that you've always had and while I don't have a T-Mobile, I would assume it wouldn't say anything different since their "4G" is the same technology as their 3G, just faster in certain areas. Only way you'll know is with speed tests to see how fast your data connection is. You're in Huntington Beach so I'd assume you'd get it there.

Yeah i usually pull from 3.5 to 7 MBPS down, so im pretty sure im on HSPA+, just was curious if it was different.

I did the same. Tmobile CS is hands down the very best I have ever dealt with. Sprint on the other hand isnt the best but isnt the worst..

I wish I didnt switch. Sprint has horrribleeeee 3G speeds. I get about 0.25 mbit down here in OC and LA.

Tmobile's coverage map is actually larger than Sprint's. But sprint roams on Verizon, while TMobile is canceling many of its roaming agreements with ATT. In theory, Tmobile's footprint is almost as large as ATT's, but I guess their higher frequency signal hurts them.

T-Mobile has the least coverage out of all the large carriers. Sprint's is second only to Verizon.
