Asking you guys because the reps were really of no help

I converted our family plan to Even More Plus awhile back to save about 30 bucks a month on our plan. (Two blackberries with data, one line with just voice).

We want to upgrade phones (me to G2, other to Bold 9780) and I was under the impression that since we were on the contract free plan, we could upgrade at any time (what I understood from when I originally spoke to the t-mo rep way back when)

I tried to do this at costco today, but the guy there said I would have to wait 80 days first, and was not eligible for their pricing, I would have to choose a new plan. T-mo doesn't even have the plan I have online anymore so I was wondering how to pull this off. I could just wait the 80 days out, but if I were able to get something now, it would be better.

Do you think calling retentions and just laying it down would work? We've been with T-mo since they were voicestream back in the day. Would have done that today, but its the weekend.

Anything else you guys think I could do?

You can upgrade your phones, but not at a subsidized cost.

Just score some phones off eBay, slap your sim cards in and be done with it. No contract, no problems :)

If you want subsidized phones, you need a different contract at a higher price.

Since you are contract free, get someone to sign up for Tmobile regular plan and port the numbers over.
That was you can get 3 phones at the subsidzied price.

I have also been with t-mobile since voicestream. I just picked up a mytouch yesterday and paid 450. They do not give you the subsidized price unless you sign for two years. There is no problem just buying new equipment at fullprice.[/QUOTE]

Also, you can call retentions on the weekends. However theyprobably cant discountthe phone for you, they can comp you a freemonth of data for example.

They started a new policy on November 14th that will allow you to revert back to Even More and get subsidized upgrades, but only if the lines on your account are out of contract. CSRs do have the capability to change contracts, so if you get someone nice on the phone and ask nicely they might take you out of contract, let you do the upgrade and switch to Even More. If you have a long tenure with T-Mobile they will probably help you do that, just ask nicely :) I used to be a T-Mo CSR.

On Even More Plus, you're limited to buying equipment at full price. No "upgrading" is allowed, as "upgrading" implies discounted pricing for signing a new contract.

I called in today, they reverted me back to even more at the same rate I was paying before as a "retention special" plus gave me the discounted prices on phones (120 for the G2, 79 for a Bold 9780) + free expedited shipping + carried over my university discount. (Paying 115 a month for 3 lines, 750 minutes, unlimited txt + data) I'm pretty satisfied.

Go t-mobile :)
