I'm likely going to get 2, one for daughter & her BF, add google voice app & they'll have unlimited cell phone calls, & I'll downgrade to the cheapest my faves plan.

Although I'll likely just buy them off eBay/Craigslist so I'm not locked into data plans...

I already use google voice on my G1, I'm very impressed so far, just ordered a large battery & back for it so I can use it more than a couple of hours at a time. It'll look like a brick :D

I wouldn't get it, because I need a real keyboard. However, I've had the G1 since launch day, and they're virtually the same phone - and I love my G1. I've used a Blackberry Curve and HTC Touch Pro through Sprint for work in that time frame, and neither comes close.

Nope. I just picked up a G1 this morning and I love it. Dont think I could get by without the full keyboard. Maybe in a year I'll go for the Hero, but I dont see a need for the MyTouch right now.

i was debating too whether to get the g1. its not really as bulky as people say. plus, i love having a physical keyboard... wish they included it on this one

I tried one out at the store. I thought it felt great in your hand, it seemed more comfortable and pocketable than the G1.

i've had a g1 since march, and personally i can't wait till more powerful cortex A8 powered android handsets come out. currently the OS is really hampered by underpowered hardware.

Then you'll wanna skip the MyTouch and go straight for the Hero.

I'm pretty sure the Hero is using the exact same CPU as the G1 and MyTouch.

T-Mobile started shipping the pre-orders. I'm getting mine delivered tomorrow, but won't get to play with it until after work on Friday.

It is the same CPU. I don't know if the Hero is also underclock or running at full 528mhz. With the G1, you need to have root and use overclock app or use build that overclocks it.

anway, just got the phone today and I must say I am REALLY impressed with it. The design is sleek and sexy, not as bulky as I had expected. The capacitive touchscreen is really responsive and the Android UI is easy to get used to. I'd say the learning curve is about an hour to get to know your way around the phone. The BarCode app is awesome :)
i've been on it all day and battery life has been very good. ...

My only gripes are:

1) the keyboard is a bit small, with letters too close to each other IMO.
2) the camera and video are so-so. no flash, but autofocus is ok
3) no standard headphone jack

I like the phone so far. Good build quality, looks really nice, and is small so it easily fits in your pocket. I wouldn't mind if it was a little bigger with a 3.5" screen though. No problems getting 3G service around Philly and NYC.

My main gripe is that the very edge of screen doesn't respond to touch, which sucks when you are typing fast and a key doesn't register because of it.

Any apps you've found to be really good SandEagle and other Android users?

Sherpa & Phone book (part of the app pack that ships with it IIRC) are a couple of the best.

Install the Google Voice app if you have a GV account, unlimited US calls is hard to beat.

Tether it with the June Fabrics app (not in the store, google it)

imeem (Pandora like app)

Ringdroid for making your own ringtones

Visual voicemail app is out now. You need to call T-Mobile to activate visual voicemail option though. Works well. Let you play the voicemails, delete them, show who left them, date/time and duration. I think it just downloads the audio onto the device so you can play it back anytime. It doesn't sync on wifi connection though.

ive had the g1 since the day it came out, and i am a pretty big fan of the android os.
since the htc hero wasnt coming out through tmobile, i thought to upgrade to the mytouch, although i was already skeptical of the no keyboard "feature" of the phone.
went to the store, held it my hand....very very light....played with it a bit....seemed flimsy...bit faster...and put it down.
it wasnt enough to give up the g1. love my keyboard. actually like the bit of weight to it. feels solid. only wish was that the g1 had a jack for earphones. otherwise, for me, this upgrade would be a downgrade.
the htc hero, however.....

i have the same issue with the edge of screen not responding. i thought it was probably related to the screen protector reducing sensitivity, but maybe not?

Some of the apps I have and like are:

Nesoid (paid version NES emulator)... works great
Sherpa
Barcode Scanner....awesome..needs some work though, check it out and show it off :)
Compass
Sky Map
MyCoupon --- very useful...scan coupons, etc
imeem
Opera Mini
Yellowbook

I'll have to look into that june fabric...never heard of it

Got a MyTouch for work to replace a crappy 3 year old HTC WinMo phone. Need to find a way to sync outlook contacts & calendar, then I'm set. Loving it so far. Sort of miss the tactile keyboard, but I'll get over it.

I picked up one the other day and am loving it. I never thought I would like a touchscreen keyboard, but its very responsive and the predictive text is VERY user friendly.

Tons of useful apps, tons of fun apps, tons of garbage apps out there.

My only complaint is that the back of the phone is textured weird. It makes it very slippery. I might have to pick up a skin.

NSFW, I ordered one of these cases for my phone. I should have it next week so I'll let you know how it is. I've read good things about it though.
