There's a new extensive hands-on user review up at ZDNet about the G1. It covers pretty much anything anyone would ever want to know about the device.

260 photos of the G1 in action and 5 videos.

From the conclusion:
Even though the G1 is not perfect, I have to say I am extremely happy with the device and am please I purchased one. I have been using devices with QWERTY keyboards and now with the G1 I can use both the QWERTY keyboard and the touch screen on a powerful, functional, solid, and attractive device. I have read many articles where people state how ugly the device is, but when you see it in person it is actually pretty attractive.

Without a doubt, people will compare the G1 to the iPhone and out of the box you honestly have to say the G1 wins over the original iPhone with wireless syncing capability, cut/copy/paste, games, a wireless music store, application store and 3rd party application support, integrated GPS, multiple client IM clients, and multi-tasking capability.

it's ugly and it looks like it could be a Sidekick, I guess taste is a personal preference thing but there is nothing I find attractive about this phone. The first time I saw it I assumed it was the new Sidekick model.

I agree completely. And the fact that its on the TMobile network is not a selling point for me either considering their coverage is horrible in my area.

well T-Mobile and lack of anything really interesting or innovative on this phone. It will sell like hot cakes, I will laugh when some idiot walks up and shows me his phone and tells me how it's soooooo much greater than an iPhone. I guess the logic is Apple sucks, the people who are anti Apple are as bad as the brainwashed ones. I've spoke to a person who said his Samsung Instinct was far superior to the iPhone in every way lol.

The G1 will be a huge success

Thats why the real smartphone users cant take the iphone seriously. Its not about the style, but the substance. Give me the ugly phone that can do everything I need over the style and slick interface.

Think about it in terms of cars. The iphone is the Mercedes SL coupe. It slick, comfortable, and its got good power, but its hampered by a soft supsention and an auto transmission. Blackberry is a Lotus Elise. Fun to drive, easy hadleing, but not much power under the hood, but it works for many. WM is the racecar w/ a roll cage, fire extinguisher, and not much else. Lots of power under the hood, but not easy to use. Hopefully, the g1 is the performance car thats easy to drive, but will have the power there, even if you may never need it.
