Does anyone know if these fans are any good
and if you can get them for case fans???

I've seen them on the TT and Vantec
heatsinks but thats all.

They had plans of releasing 80mm versions but I never saw those come out. They're rather loud at full speed too. Besides, the point was to reduce the dead spot blowing down on a heatsink. That dead spot doesn't really matter if you use them as case fans.

i know alot of people used to buy these fans for low profile applications since the dead spot was diminished plus the fan itself was only 15mm think i think...

I was very interested in the TMD fan. Even considered modding my Tt Volcano 7+ to accomodate one but that never happened :)

I think YS Tech ran into some major stability problems and burning out problems as they tried to increase beyond 70mm. The concept was quite a good one and the extra air hitting the centre of a heatsink would probably have been favourable but it didnt take off.

As Howard said, I think one of their main problems was that they burned out and hence unreliable.

I doubt there was little additional air being forced down the middle. It's like the equivalent of putting a 20mm or 30mm fan in the middle.

My coworker/friend has one of those fans on his custom CPU cooler. He got it like 5 years ago at some computer show. I've looked at it a few times and it is louder than a standard fan, but does seem to push alot of air and keeps his CPU very cool. Its probably only a 60mm fan.

Its been running in his old P4 rig almost 24/7 for quite some time - I guess his has been reliable, but who knows where is was made. It has no name or logo on it and the heatsink its on almost looks homemade. weird huh? I will have to drill him with some more specific questions about it.

I have 3 that have no problems at all. Hell I even took one apart and bent the wires connecting all points together... oops. They had problems of burning out when its screwed a little too tight and something was shorting inside.

I've used two Vantec AeroFlow TMD HSF's over the past two years. Both are quieter than equivalent units with regular 70 mm fans on them, and both do an excellent job of cooling.

There is a web site named Frosty Tech (or something similar) at which the techs regularly test cpu heat sinks against standards they created to test against. The AeroFlow tested well there, doing a decent job of cooling, and posting an equally reasonable showing on noise.

The TMD on my Aeroflow was the only one reporting the RPM correctly. My other two, which I'm guessing was the first batch, report either 600 or 10000 rpm. :D
