\t in Java using System.out.println

Is there anyway to print a set number of tabs based on the value of some variable.

eg, say I have a variable called x = 3

Is there anyway to print 3 \t's on a line (i'm trying to line up some data).

I tried this:

for (i=0; i == x; i++)
System.out.print("\t");

But it didn't work.
