Is there a big difference in performance between Thoroughbreds and Palominos? The reason I ask is there seems to be such a demand for the T-Breds and the Palominos seem to go for a lot lower price.

no, it's because the T-Bred(B) is a much, much better overclocker compared to the Palomino

;) If you don't plan to o/c the only real diff is heat, Polly are VERY hot around XP2000+ speeds while Tbreds are way cooler (even at XP2600+). There are 2 types of Tbred, A which only uses 1 extra layer, is often mult locked and don't o/c much better than Polly and B which uses 2 extra layers, is always mult unlocked (but watch out for dumb mobos) and o/c's like a dream even the XP1700+ version.

i just remembered my bro got a 1700+ t-bred, next time hes gone for a while im taking his pc apart to see the stepping and decide if i may "trade" with him for a few bucks

Those bargain Palominos make great chips for regular users. I built my sister an xp1600+ for less than 3 bills, largely due to using an older mobo and a pali.

Thanks for the advice folks. This info will come in handy when I build my daughter a new system. She doesn't even know what overclocking is so a Palomino should do just fine. Thanks again.:D;)
