It seems as if the T-Bred-b chips are amazing for overclocking but unfortunately i don't got one, instead i have a T-Bred A!!! I didn't have much of a choice since they're nearly impossible to get a hold of :(

Anbody have a T-Bred A 1700xp chip? and if u do, how good of an overclocker is it in relation to the T-Bred B???

Serial Numbers Found on Chip:
AXDRA1700DLT3C
AIRGA0229DPAW

They're considerably worse. The T-bred A's were flawed and didn't ramp beyond the 2200+ b/c of heat issues. AMD quickly realized the design/process flaws and added a few metal layers and some power regulation units to the T-bred B which allowed the XP core to scale to current levels. The early T-bred A's (which you have, a week 29 2002 mfg. date) didn't get much higher than ~1.8MHz, which is similar to the best stepping Palomino cores; The later T-bred A's (week 40 or later) hit closer to the 2GHz mark. T-bred B's easily hit 2GHz and depending on which week and sub-stepping (JIUCB, JIUHB, AIUHB etc.), often more.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(

Don't despair, though they don't overclock as well as the B's they still do fine.
My T-Bred A runs at 1950 MHz stable at 1.725V but I run it at 1910 MHz to maximize my FSB. :)

Yeah, I also have an "A" that will do 1.95G. It's now running in my primary system.

Cool..... 1.95 or so isn't bad, it ain't no T-Bred B but that should be plenty! I'm currentl running mine at 1750 with no problems what so ever.... i know i can push it more but i haven't had the chance too.. but i will be trying soon and keep u guys updated!

Multiplier = 12.5
FSB= 130 at 1.75 V

and my temps are really good... never seen it go above 38 degress under load :D .. a lot better than by 1400 t-bird whichi used to run at 53 degrees under no load :disgust:

I juts got a week 50 2002 1700+ A chip. I put it in my Abit NF7-S board and have it running at 9 X 200Mhz FSB (1.8Ghz) at only 1.65 volts.

100% stable and fast. So yea A is not as good as B, but that doe snot mean you will not get your moneys worth, I got all my $50 out of mine and some :)

That should do very well; its a late stepping T-bred B with the newer 1.5V default voltage, mfg. date week 10 2003. Should be able to hit 2.2GHz and probably more with a good board, RAM, PSU, cooling, etc.

What kind of temps do you guys run with a moderate overclock? In other words, what is a safe temp, I'm using stock HSF, Asus A7N8X Deluxe, Corsair XMS 400, Antec PSU. The link on this forum says something about 90 degrees...is that right??
thanks, I'm new to AMD
I plan to use Silver Thermal compound on the HSF for better heat transfer. Are there any issues with this and an AMD cpu?

I don't have my 1700+ set up yet, but when I do, how do I fetch this kind of data? Just through SiSoft's Sandra or such?

Temps will be a direct reflection of your core voltage and the quality of your heatsink and fan/ambient case temps. If you can achieve a moderate overclock w/out increasing your voltage, you should be sitting in the low 40C range. If you have to increase your core voltage to achieve a stable overclock, your temps will increase considerably. I would try not to exceed 50C.

Malladine, stepping information is on the OPGA on a black sticker for T-breds and Bartons. On Palomino's and older, the etchings are on the slug itself.

Maladine,
I believe most of the data will come out of the bios settings, benchmarks and such from sandra

AND THE RESULTS ARE...

I got it to hit about 1860 mhz with my voltage at 1.8 but it semmed unstable so settled for 1800 mhz (multiplier = 12, FSB=150, Voltage=1.775) :frown:

well for starters it written on the chip. then you could use like wcpuid
