T-bred 2100+ on Dragon Plus?

Hi...I'm thinking about a relatively cheap CPU upgrade from my 1700+ to a t-bred 2100+. I know there's a bios update to allow 2100+ CPUs, but I don't know if only allows Palomino 2100s, or if the T-bred will work just fine. Anyone running a T-bred 2100+ (both A and B) on a Soyo K7V Dragon Plus mobo?

Jman

No, the Dragon Plus is a KT266A. My current 1700 is a Palomino. I built the machine just over a year ago.

ehh then you are ok im pretty sure
just update the bios and go from there
(dont ditch old cpu, JUST in case, yet lol)

if it can run on my a7v (kt133...but its detected as a duron....but has the cpuid of 681 which is tbred b...plus i looked at the stepping) it would mos tlikely work for you

it also supports the higher mults, atleast the mult of a 2100+, so thats another reason i would think why it would work

does soyo have some "offically supported cpu list"

Excellent! Thanks a lot.... Guess I'll buy that T-bred in a little bit. (It'll probably be a month or so, but it'll be super cheap by then.)

Pops.

Why do you say that? Can't you manually do something to the chip to enable k266 to "improve" things? I personally don't know, but I just put a 1700 palomino in and am loading Windows 2K on HDD, first at all defaults then hopefully I'll be able to overclock later.

I'm confused, popcicle, since the Soyo compatibility list says that the Dragon Plus supports T-breds up to 2100+. What's the issue with them?

O.K. guys...

I find that Soyo has released a BIOS update for
the Dragon+ dated 1-22-03 to correct the Tbred
boot-up issue.

However this upgrade is listed as being for the
1700+ and 1800+ Tbred chips.

That's great. I have 2 of these boards who have
been waiting for this.

I've never updated a bios, so I am ignorant of procedure. But what confuses me is that up to the current update one apparently needed a separate award program in order to update. The listing for the most recent one, which I looked at a couple days ago, did not say anything about needing that awardflash program first.

Anyone with explanation?
Procedure?

Good grief, I also was looking at info for an Iwill board, so I hope I didn't confuse the two. I think not, however. Ergo, questions still stand.

Jackbike:
run the *.zip file to a bootable floppy. The awardflash program will appear there. Jot down the *.bin file, reboot using the floppy, and run awardflash. It will ask for the *.bin file which you key in then hit "enter." When it's done reboot into the bios and load optimized defaults, save and exit. Reboot back into the bios and reset everything to your liking. It's easier to do than to describe.

I was sure that the Soyo web site said that the k7v Dragon Plus would support the XP 2100 tbred but i just checked and now it has N/A list under tbred support for the Dragon Plus.
Does anyone know for sure if the Dragon Plus will really support the XP 2100 tbred ?

Look again: http://www.soyotek.com/kb/kbdesc.php?id=16

It will handle 2100+ I am presuming you need latest bios.

There is a new upgrade bios that you should get, dated Valenitine's Day, 2/14/03.

If by remote chance, you run into a problem with flashing the bios (I did) be aware that you can reset the bios to original defaults (see tech help on soyousa.com site) and try again. If that doesn't work, you can get a new bios chip with the latest bios for $20 plus ship (see the site) or mail them your chip and they will flash it for $15 plus shipping.
