WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! Looks like Anand has re-visited the overclocking of the Duron and T-bird. 1.1Ghz here i come!

I dunno, I've yet to see any hard info on motherboards that will have all the things in place to overclock properly. If and when those come out, I'll start taking a peek at a duron or thunderbird again.

Dear Anand,

Did you ever know that you're my hero? Well, you are the wind beneath my wings.

lol, i wonder why he didn't tell us who the vendor was or if it even matters? I predict many people with homeless cpus :)

go to http://www.amdzone.com and look into their bbs under athlon cpu, Le Vieux is John C, and there's a good discussion on how it works and A7V's multiplier switching. Reports in australia say no switches, but others said production boards will have switches, only time can tell. But if amd decides no more, then no more :(

So I see no real reason to cut the connections; since remarks can't remark unless they sell it with a mobo :), any thoughts?

Confusing stuff, too much soldering for my likes. :(

Mebbe the A7V with the dipswitches already takes care of some of this?

It's great but it's kinda hard to do. Oh man. I want AMD 760 Chipsets!!!!!!!!!

Looks like even if the MB takes care of the dipswitches, we still need to manually adjust the pins on the CPU.

Not good.. :(

The mods that Anand did to the FIC AZ11 are really simple soldering mods. Much easier than removing/re-soldering surface mount resistors on the classic Athlon. Cutting the traces form the bottom of the mobo is also simple.

simple for the few of us who know what we are doing. We are outnumbered by hobbbiests that just want a cpu THEY can overclock easily.

Just because a reviewer shows steps in an effort to refute rumors that Duron/T-bird cannot be over clocked, does not make an endorsement for the average hobbiest to try that method.

I would not use an FIC for my Duron or my Thunderbird.7 of 9 athlon mobos from them where returned defective that all but closed the doors on a shop here. That shop keeeper lost over $10,000 in sales and got a bad reputation and it was just because of FIC.

IMHO,when mobo makers produce a board that EASILY allows a hobbiest to overclock and doesn't require invasive surgery, that will be the mobo/chip of choice.:)

Compared to hacking into the bridges on the CPU, I consider the process described fairly simple. Adding water blocks, extra power supplies for peliers etc is a pain in the ass. I am NOT advocating anyone to perform this process. If mobo makers adopt this or similar process so that everyone can overclock, I strongly suspect that AMD will take other action to lock their cpu's. They must do this to protect their copyrights etc. They can not legally challenge a company selling systems that are overclocked if 'common knowledge' allows for such overclocking. Trade secrets must be protected for them to remain secret.

Obviously, since all of these pins and contacts still exist for us to play with, a motherboard maker with some balls will put out a board for overclockers. I bet Abit will be first.
