Anyone have any numerical comparisons of a T-bird 1.4's temps to a XP's temps? I know there's a difference from what I hear, XP supposedly running cooler, but how great a difference is it, really?

The XP runs about 20% cooler than the TBird.. So at 1.4ghz, it roughly produces the same heat as, and corresponding the temps of, a 1.2ghz Athlon.

AMD PR claimed a 20% drop, but in reality, the drop is much closer to 12-15% on average.

Comparing temps between Xp Chips and T-bird chips on hte same MB is impossible. THe new pcb further renders Socket-thermistor's even more inaccurate.

I have a taisol HSF rated up to Tbird 1.3 ghz. Do you think it should work fine for my Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4ghz palomino core). If it does produce 20% less heat, I don't see why not :D

For a non-O/Cing system...sufficient.

Thanks for the help...so, for the price of an XP chip, do ya think it'd be worth the upgrade from a 1.4 for someone looking to do some o/cing?
