T-Bird Situation

So, I have decided to forsake intel in the name of lower prices and go t-bird. After browsing around the overclockers.com database, it seems that the 850s are the cheapest processor with a good chance of hitting 1ghz. However, over at the register they are stating that AMD will have completely different processors for the DDR boards, probably these CPUs will be optimized for the 266mhz bus. Anyway, will AMD release sub ghz 266 chips? And will the pencil trick still work? Will you be able to plug a 200mhz chip into a 266mhz board, thanks for the help.
