T-bird question

I already posted this in another forum but it looks like more people visit the General Forum. I want to buy an 850 T-bird and o/c so I was wondering if there was anything wrong with buying the OEM version. Are they of lesser quality or do they not o/c very well or are they exactly the same with the exception of the warranty and box? If they are of lesser quality then I wont buy the OEM.

My understanding of the difference between OEM and Retail is they are the same part. In this case an authentic AMD Athlon processor. They're cheaper because they don't come in fancy packaging, are warranted by the retailer (not AMD) and may or may not come with the documentation, software and drivers that the retail box comes with. Probably won't come with a heatsink and fan either.
Aside from the shorter warranty, heatsink and fan, you can get everything you need off of AMDs website.

i was going to buy an 800 tbird. But if you are smart you use the $30 coupon and just buy the boxed one at buy.com ends up costing the same or a couple bucks less. There is no real difference. Some intel ones way back in the day the retails were better overclockers, but i dont think AMD does that.

I've been reading in other threads about this Buy.com coupon but I haven't been able to figure out what to do to get it. Are the T-birds being sold at Buy.com still unlockable?

I wanted the 850 so that if for some reason I couldn't o/c it would still be an 850. But I guess 50mhz doesn't make that much of a difference.
