If you have the money, which one will you get?
I don't care if T-bird system is cheaper therefore I can save some $, but I do care how much I can overclock. (T-bird 900 vs. P3 900)

im not sure there is a p3-900, 866 and 933 i know but not 900. regardles, from what i read the t-bird 900's for the most part stable at upwards of 1.2ghz. intel on the otherhand are haveing trouble yeilding chips that hit 1ghz so id say the t-bird is a safer bet. of course it is posable thhat regardles if you buy intel or amd the chip won't oc enough to make any diffrence. however if its an amd, you can go out and buy another one and still spend less than on a p3-933.

<sarcasm> I kinda like these threads. You don't see many of them around here. It's a nice breath of fresh air. </sarcasm>

Although you said "if you have the money", it really isn't a question of money anymore.

PIII 933EB $428
TBird 1.1GHz $357
(pricewatch lows today)

This really is a no brainer. And if you have the money to burn just go to the TBird 1.2GHz for $489, just $61 more than the 933EB.

Check out TomsHardware article/review of the TBird 1.2GHZ and Duron 800 which he just posted. He talks about this very point.:)

Get a T-bird 1.2Ghz for right around $500. A P3 1.0Ghz is currently around $700. There shouldn't even be any thinking involved as to which is better.

Well... if u read the tomshardware review, u would see that the P3 1Ghz is about the same speed as a 1.1Ghz Athlon. So I would day get a P3 933 and a good BX chipset mobo.

Maybe in a few games, but in 3D apps there´s no contest, the T-bird is 30% faster than the PIII. There´s really no reason to go PIII now if you´re buying a new system.

The P3 is a great chip, but its not the best for overclocking. They have those cores maxed out at about 1ghz.

I think that P3 is still noticeably faster under 3d, but a duron 700 overclocked to 1Ghz is flat out, hands down the best deal you can get. Spend the extra money on a Elsa Gloria video card (retails for about 500 dollars!)

Those two things combined will pretty much kick the cr@p out of any system out there. That Gloria card is basically a Geforce with all the features turned on combined with the best memory that money can buy.

Why spend all that money on a processor that will be out of date by this time next year? That video card will take about 2-3 years before it gets outdated, but right now there isnt anything even close. The Geforce2 ultras are about half the power as a gloria.

If I were buying this week I would have to buy AMD, to me it's a no brainer. I'm fine right now with this P3 650@ 949. But as soon as the DDR mobos hit, I'm going AMD in a heartbeat.

Yup, if money is no object just get the fastest Tbird you can find. It'll be faster than anything you can hope to overclock(possibly excepting an overclocked 1.1ghz and 1ghz Tbird). It is a no-brainer IMO.
