I've seen a lot of review on overclocking the Duron. The performance of the cloked Duron is only behind a little bit compare to T-bird at the same Mhz. The price however, varies quite a lot. So which CPU would be the smart move? (T-bird or Duron)

Which Duron and T-bird is a better way to go if I plan to overclock and don't want to spend too much of money, unless it's really worth go it.....

T-bird: 800, 850 or 900Mhz.
Duron: 600, 700 or 800Mhz.

Motherboard: Abit KT133-RAID

Thanks

Duron. I have several T-Bird systems (850@1200 & 1000 "Bluebird @ 1150) and the Duron 600@1050 is very close to either of them. I really can't percieve the speed difference and the UT/Q3 FPS advantage is 1-2 in favor of the T-Bird with a Radeon AIW 32M. The 750-800 Durons are your best bet for a Gig+ and the MSI K7T Pro 2 is the best Motherboard with the Abit KT7 next in line (and available).

Make SURE you have a good Power Supply. The Enlight 250W is on AMD's approved list but it WON'T WORK with a Duron OC'd to 900+. Spend the money you save on the CPU on a GOOD PS and a good Heatsink/Fan (I use the Alpha 6035)

I would go Duron. In a few months all the 760 boards will be out and then you may want some thing faster. So forking out $200 for a T-Bird might seem kinda dumb at this time when you get a Duron 700 for about $70.
