I was getting ready to install my new 1.1G Thunderbird today, and noticed that there's some sort of yellow label (part stock number?) pasted to the bottom of the processor. It covers the area where the temp sensor should contact the chip. I figure I should go ahead and just peel the sucker off.

Does it make any difference, one way or another?

The sticker is likely a warranty ID of some kind. I would carefully peel it off (so you can put it back on if you need to) and clean any adhesive residue off of the CPU using a Qtip and rubbing alcohol. This will give the temp sensor as accurate a reading as possible. Remember- elecrtically ground yourself first!!! (Static SUC*S):D

Makes sense to me. That sticker is now stuck in a convenient corner of my case, just in case I need it later. Despite all the horror stories I'd read regarding heatsink/fan installation, it was literally a snap. The only hesitation came when I had to judge just how much Arctic Silver to apply.

Now comes the really hard part. Since my video card won't be delivered until Monday, I can't even power the thing up to see if everything's OK. The next 48 hours are gonna be looooong ones.
