T-bird 900 to 1050...no more?

I've been trying like crazy to oc my 900 to at least 1100... but no luck. I am running an ABIT kt7A (not raid) with the tbird 900. I'm using a taisol hs with stock fan (I know... it's not great) with AS2 between it and the cpu. I have 2 sticks of Crucial cas2 256's installed. I've even tried OC'ing above 1050 with failsafe settings and using a 133 fsb (To make sure the memory wasn't limiting me). I'm currently at 7.5X140.

My question is...are there some chips that just can't be pushed regardless of voltage/temps? I don't think temps were the issue because I couldn't even get into windows (said missing himem.sys and other diff files at times). Temp in BIOS read 36C and when I did get windows to load... temp inside windows (no load) was 36-38C. I had the voltage to 1.85 and even tried setting i/o voltage up a notch.

If I thought a bigger fan for teh HS would help... I'd get one... but geesh... those temps shouldn't be limiting me. Any ideas??
Thanx in advance.

damn, you just described my situation exactly..read my post about finding mosel vitalec..I just bought the kt7a and sold my a7v thinking my board might be holding me back...cause my a7v won't let me up the fsb at all, but basically you and me could have the same 900 that maxes out at 1050..no matter how much cooling and voltage..thats just the max of the chip

i wish i could run my chip at the 133fsb but otherwise my 900 is limited to 1050 also. i can do 10x100 at default voltage and it's 100% stable. at 10.5x100 i need 1.85 volts, then it seems to be stable as well. it won't go over that though.....go figure

might be the chip limitation... my 900 maxes out at 1100... not bad i think but of course, who'd complain if it could go faster... ;)

I have the same problem. I have KT7A w/raid. 900 MHz Tbird o/ced to 1050 with the Taisol HSF. I can get up to 1073 in Win 2k, but 1050 is the highest stable speed I can get in both Win Me and Win 2k.

i have an athlon 900 with kt7a-raid mobo. using a copper hedgehog and just completed 3dmarks with it @ 1066 (133 x 8.0) with voltage at 1.85. temp got as high as 48 deg C and was rock-solid stable. going to set SETI@home on it for a while and check the temp then. but 1066 is pretty nice =) over 133 fsb and you have to get a better heatsink/fan for the chipset...

ok, more updates on the Abit KT7A-RAID + Athlon 900:

i tried 10.5 x 105 fsb (1102) and the box boots and runs sandra, but crashes while running 3dmark. i also compared the scores for 8 x 133 (1066) and 7.5 x 140 (1050). while the former has a higher sandra score (by a few points), the latter has a higher 3dmark score. all of these tests were down with the box fully open, the window in my room open (chilly night in LA, about 50 deg F), and a house fan directed at the box (so heating would not be a factor, just what the mobo can handle).

So would the 950Mhz be better oc'er? Cuz I just got the MSI Turbo and from the threads that I've been reading, people are getting problems to oc a 1 gig and higher.
