If any of you read the operating systems forum you might have read that I was having trouble with my Lexmark Z51 and WinME. Well, instead of reloading an old system (Bh6, Cel 566)I decided to replace the lot.

New SysteM:
T-bird 850
Abit Kt7-RAID (with 12/12 Bios)
256 Meg PC100 ram
Maxtor 30 Gig ATA 100 (7200 RPM) EIDE
40X cd rom, one HP Cdrw

I started assembling this new system over the weekend. I made a few misktakes along the road. I did not check for a BIOS update until last night. This probably explains why WIN ME freezes after loading. I did find updated 4 in1 drivers on the viatech site.
My point here is simple, look before you leap. Even a seasoned professional can make a mistake.

Tonight I am going to WIPE WinME and load it clean again. Hopefully with the new bios running things will go better.
I already have the articles from this site on AMD AThalons and such.
At this point I am not going to overclock. Maybe after the holidays are over. I would appreciate it if anyone can share the settings they are using with their T-bird on the Kt7-Raid.

Thanks

I have the KT7-RAID and running WinME. The settings on my mobo doesn't really differ too much from the standard. I have made a few modifications, such as disabling the Highpoint controller, beacuse I have yet to get a newer hard drive than my old 38400 RPM 8GB. I have also disabled the check for a floppy drive, since I don't even have one on my system. I never need one, and haven't needed one yet for the length I've owned my system. I have also disabled AGP 4x and Fast Writes because it likes to lock up my system. I need to update some drivers, but I'm too lazy. Aside from that, and the obvious multiplier and FSB settings that have changed, that's about it.

i have been building a kt7-raid system my self, but with a 750 tbird. i found this artical wich was nice to look at while configureing the bios here>
i also have a 12/12c bios, WT. i have all he tweeks on except agp x4 and fast writes bucause my v5 doesn't use them, also the fsb seems stable to 110 and a bit pissy at 111 (drops out of 3dmark). all goes to hell with 112 were i get protection errors as winME loads, your results may very a bit on that a bit though.

lol, a bit, pun intended:)

Well,
Last night I wiped Windows ME and I reloaded it. With the 12/12 bios installed WinMe loaded just fine. After the last reboot I loaded the Via 4in1 drivers (ver. 4.25) and the USB filter. I have also moved my Hard drives to the Hot controller. Oh, I forgot to mention that for the reload I took out all my cards except my AGP Video. WinMe is stable.
When I put my Sound Blaster Live card in and loaded the ME drivers for it
ME promptly locked up. I believe that it is a hardware conflict so I know how to handle that. Slowly over the next several weeks I will reload my apps. Of course the most important thing to reinstall is my modem and EMAIL!

Happy Holidays to all
