sytem services disabled on shutdown

hi, i never really post, i concider myself to be pretty ok with computers, not leet or anyhting, but i mean i can fixx most hardware and software issues. usually by reformatting. i ran into a laptop that i dont want to reformat, and im haven problems with the system service disabling ( run>msconfig>services ) at first this computer had the sasser virus, i installe da few windows upadtes, and service pack 2 - so its xp home - and now the sasser symptoms have dissapeared. i installed norton 2005 and updated, and i have pest patrol 2005 with updates. i search with both and come up empty handed. the only problem i am running into now is that when i shut down this machine it sets all the system services to Disabled - verry annoying, and i dont know what in the world is causing it. so without reformatting i ran outta ideas. please help asap

thanks, eric
