I have a 256MB of RAM (Kingmax PC150 running at 133). I am using Win98SE. When I boot I have about 80% resources free. After I launch Outlook and couple of IE instances and working for a while it drops to low 50s. How important is it to have high level of free system resources? Should I be really worried about it? What consitutes system resources? What is the minimum required for context switches (and switching between apps)?
My second question is this: I have over fifty programs installed on my PC and at any given point of time I will need a maximum of 5 programs. When I am working on video editing I only need those programs loaded. When I use internet I only need outlook and IE. So is it possible to have multiple user logins in Win98SE, so that only the required drivers, part of the registry and peripherals are loaded? If this is possbile it should be easy to manage resources.
I know I can do this by having two hard disks, but then I can have only two kinds of windows installations. Right?
I will appreciate all help and suggestions.
