A friend of mine installed Systemworks 2002, and after the computer restarted, NOTHING is working. she can browse for files, but can't open anything. All the icons on her desktop have turned into like those default windows file icons.

Control panel won't open, not even in safe more.
System restore won't open in windows, safe mode, or safe mode command prompt.

likE NOTHING workds....
got any ideas, I have to guide her over the phone so lemme know and ill guide her.

If necessary, consider having her do a parallel installation of Windows into, say, C:\WINXP2 directory, and use that to rescue her data and burn it to CDs or stash it on a second hard drive. Then nuke the boot drive and reinstall WinXP properly without catching worms in the process. my attempt at general setup-safety tips is here She got a router to protect it until it's patched?

Tip her off to avoid installing 4-year-old versions of system-utilities software next time, too.

SW2002 and 2003 were OK as long as you limitted the install to NAV, disk doctor and speed disk. System Doctor really bogged the system down. I used to use those tools a lot with win 9x and fat32....But since win2k and NTFS I just run anitivirus (Antivir)
