Meh, not a step forward or backward for them.. just doesn't do anything for me in that context.. I need to hear the full album.

Sidenote, I'm so glad Petrucci is back to IIC+s.

IIC+s ?

It's good, but not listen-to-it-over-and-over-for-the-next-decade good. Dream Theater has never really done that much for me. Past the "Wow mad skilz" factor they always leave me with nothing.

Indeed.. too much wankery for my taste, they should be more worried about making nice melodies and working as whole band, not showing off how fast/accurate they can play

Dream Theater is the quintessential metal-prog band and defined the genre. Too bad they have one of the worst singers in the genre...the rest of the band is great. Though I worry that they might be starting to play down to his craptacular level. Their original singer was rouhgly 100x better.

Yeah I have to agree with Snatchface on that one, he does not fit the band at all in its current state. That's why I love Liquid Tension Experiment.. it's DT sans La Blows and Myung but Tony Levin who took over for Myung is a bass god by anyone's standards and he brings an awesome tone to the mix.

Some of the lyrics and vocals on 'Train Of Thought' are downright laughable and atrocious... he sounded much better on the earlier albums, I cannot knock that.. he just got this really annoying half talking/acting 'tough' style to some of his lyrics of late that just make an otherwise amazing prog metal song into some cheezy bullshit... frustrating.
