System won't show down with new drive installed

So I finally figured out why my system won't shut down. When I remove the new drive, the system fully shuts down. It's only when the drive is installed that the system won't shut down. I have to do a forced shut down

Anyone know why this may be happening? It doesn't look like there are any real issues with the drive besides the prevention of shutting down

What? Did you put a new CD drive in your stereo system? Why can't you shut the stereo system down by just unplugging it?

Thanks for the input. I posted under memory / storage so I would think hard drive would be obvious not optical

But to clarify - system = server, drive = hard drive

Thanks

Which Linux distro are you running?

I mean come on, seriously, if you want an informed response, you need to give some information. There are just to many variables for guessing.

Ok I hear you on that

Running WHS v1 and it's drive extender

There are 3 other 2 tb drives all of which are wd greens that have been adjusted for idle timing so the head doesn't park excessively. The new drive is a seagate green drive

All housed in a istarusa bpn hot swap cage that is housed in...

A lian li mid tower case
ASUS Maximus formula board

The 3 wd drives run fine and the server shuts down properly. If I add the seagate, it functions properly except for the fact that it wont let the server shutdown completely. I get no errors. Everything seems fine with the pool. Just that I need to force the shut down if that particular drive is runnint

I think I got it. My video drivers were not being properly installed. Now that it is, I'm able to sleep / shut down my server. At least, it is that way for now. I guess IRQ conflicts? Otherwise, not sure how why it would seem to work better when the drive is removed from the cage.
