I got a generic CD-Rom in trade for my shxtty DVD drive that wouldn't read cdrs or anything. i tried the cd-rom on the secondary ide channel as master, didnt work right. tried on primary as slave, will recognize in BIOS but not in windows, what do i do?

Try and see if you can't install the drivers from within DOS. Find out what brand the cd-rom is, or if it is just TOTALLY generic, get some fairly compatible cd-rom dos drivers and install it as a DOS device. It will still work in windows, but windows will tell you it isn't optimized. Which is BS because I ran a CD-rom like this for about a year and never had problems. Windows just doesn't recognize certain drives.

If all else fails try removing your bus master controller drivers in device manager and when you re-boot and re-install the drivers(have drivers available!), Windows will re-detect your hardware and "find" your CD-ROM drive. I had the same problem as you and this was the only way I found that worked! Good Luck!
