Computer Specs

Athlon 900
Shuttle AK31A - Rev2 (Recent BIOS)
256MB DDR PC 2100
GeForce2 GTS w/ 32MB RAM
250W Power Supply
40GB Western Digital HD
80GB Seagate HD
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Windows XP (All recent SP)

CD-RW
32x12x40 Cendyne (Rebadged Lite-On)

DVD
Pioneer 106s (Slot Load Drive)

I'm trying to get the Cendyne and the Pioneer to work at the same time but, for some strange reason I can't. I replaced an older cd rom drive with the Pioneer, with both working fine. I went as far as replacing the power supply from a 200w to a 250w PSU. The drives work fine separately, but when I plug both of them in neither of them are recognized in the BIOS or in WinXP.

I've tried playing around with the Slave/Master/Cable Select jumpers but to no avail.

Does anyone know what could be wrong? Anyone have problems similar to mine? Thanks.

(Trying not to sound patronizing with the following suggestions)

Really does sound like you don't have either the jumpers configured correctly or/and you have the ATA/66/100 cable incorrectly attached to those drives.

You can enable both those drives as Cable Select to make things easier , but as regards the cable if it is an ATA66/100 then
Blue connector= Motherboard
Grey connector = Slave
Black connector = Master

Have you tried disconnecting both your hard drives and then test those optical drives to see if you really are under powering your pc with your PSU ?

I fixed the issue by making the CD-RW the master drive and the Pioneer the slave drive.

Now I have a problem that may or may not be related the the previous issue.

After I boot up and login to XP, the system runs extremely slow! Again...same specs as below, but something seems to be slowing down the sytem.
