I threw together a system today, had the 200mhz CPU and mobo sitting around, put it in a case, threw in a 9.1 GB IBM Deskstar, a 4MB Matrox Mystique, a floppy, cd-rom.. etc..

I power it on, the HDD spins up the CD-ROM spins up.. but I just noticed the floppy light doesn't come on.. dead 3.5 maybe.. but don't get any monitor output either.. and no POST beep much less any error beeps.. any ideas? Thanks

My guess would be jumper settings. Check your multiplier and voltage settings. Also the VIO voltage setting if it is MMX.

On some older mobo's they won't boot unless you have a working floppy drive - if your floppy drive is busted, then your computer will not boot. You have to remember, in the days of 200mhz, floppies though pretty useless, were still actually used. The other thing might be that the PS you used is dead or on its way. Also, make sure no IDE cables are upside down.

Checked the jumpers, they're set to 166 mhz, and it's a 166 mhz MMX.. Also tried a new floppy.. still won't POST. HDD spins up, sounds like it's booting normal, but then it just sits there, and at no time do I get any kind of signal to the monitor

Is the video card bad?

You might try disconnecting all cables from the motherboard and seeing if will boot with just the cpu, ram and a good video card. You may also be running into a problem with that big of a drive in that old of a system.
