My mom just recieved a printer/fax/copier thingamajiger (HP5610) for her home office, and was having trouble installing it. I came in and figured out that the usb plugs were not functional. Plugged a optical mouse in, no light. Looked in device manager, no USB controller anywhere. I figured the drivers must have never been installed somehow... So... I downloaded the USB driver for win2k from ecs' website to no avail.

Apparently there was a win2k usb 2.0 issue that was supposed to be fixed in with the release of SP4, however... She HAS sp4. I've tried both the drivers from the website, and the drivers on the original mobo cd.

Thoughts?

The USB controller on the motherboard could be dead. Try booting your system with a Linux CD or something. If it sees your USB then, you probably just have a Windows driver issue. If not, then you'll probably have to buy a PCI USB card to get that printer to work.
