Hi all I hope some one can help me out. Ok here is my problem, recently my computer has been locking up while playing online games online like bf2142 or cod2 for no apparent reason. I did just recently add a new cooling fan for my video card but I highly doubt that would be the cause of the lockups since my gpu idles at around 57c and under load it goes up to about 78c .

It pretty much all started when I updated bf2142, I am guessing that punkbuster is whats the cause of my problems but I have done a couple things to try and fix it like typing in a couple commands in game which seemed to help but still crashed on me.

Another weird thing I noticed while playing was this nasty sound during game play, it sounds all digitized, high pitch noises and what not which causes stuttering in game then my system usually ends up locking up after that but sometimes it just locks up with out that indicator happening.

I have the latest drivers for my video and sound card. I dont have a bunch of crap running in the background(only have 16 process on start up), I dont have anti-virus since I really have no need for it. I updated pb I turned off ati tool since I thought that my be conflicting with pb. Still the lock ups happen, normally when a system locks up its hardware related right? The thing is though im able to play single player games like fear, oblivion, stalker no problem with out crashes or lockups but when I play those online games it happens.

System specs are:
AMD FX-60
X1800XT
Fatality sound card
2 gigs of ocz

I get that sometimes too, it's flippin' annoying. I used to get punkbuster errors "losing key packets" which would then kick me from any server I joined, and I also used to get some errors that would lock the game entirely. They were resolved (it seems, so far) by removing and reinstalling the game. I've reinstalled the game a few times this month, much to my annoyance, so my tip is to not delete the BF2142 1.25 patch after you've applied it incase you need it again. Try powercycling your router and reinstalling the game and let us know if that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. I just tried a reinstall of 2142 to see if that would fix the problem. I was able to play 3 or 4 rounds with out a lock up or that nasty noise coming up. Probably tomorrow ill try playing about 10 rounds, if im able to get passed 5 with out any problems then I would guess it would be safe to say that my problem has been fixed. peace
