A couple weeks ago, my system started doing this thing where it won't shutdown, only restart. This all started after I moved it into a new case and it also forgot my BIOS settings a couple of times. It didn't do this restarting this when I built it about a month ago.

Specs:
Asus P5Q Deluxe
Intel Q9450
2 x 2GB Corsair Dominator
ATI 4870
VelociRaptor
Corsair HX620W
Windows Vista Ultimate x64

I've tried different video cards, different PSUs, fresh install of Windows, loading BIOS defaults - nothing changes it. Also in my BIOS settings, all the "wake from ___" options are disabled.

Do you mean you replaced the battery and that fixed the problem, or you took all of your components out of your case and put them in a new one which fixed the problem?

If your computer wasn't shutting down and only able to restart, maybe you hooked the case wiring in to the motherboard incorrectly.

new case, works fine
I never could find the battery on this board - are the new ones smaller or something?
I don't think that was the issue, because one thing I tried was disconnecting the power/reset switches and using the ones built into the motherboard

It's possessed. j/k. Could be a fault reset switch or the pins for the reset switch melted?

Im having the exactly same problems as you Ender17. My pc wont shutdown, it just restarts.
I have this specs:

Asus P5Q
E8500
4 GB PC8500
Ati HD4870
Crossair 550W
And a Antec P182

Did you experience this problem with you Antec case only?

Because I have been doing research all over the net after solutions, and tried about any configuration in BIOS and Windows I can think of. And it only reboots upon trying to shutdown the system.

Thank you.

I never did get the problem resolved. It didn't do it when I first built the system in open air on my desk. First noticed it after putting it in an Antec Solo case. Took it out of that case and put it in my P182, problem disappeared for a few restarts, then reappeared. I bought another P5Q Deluxe to try and swap out, but now I'm thinking I might not even bother and just get a different board. It's honestly not that big of a deal since I usually don't turn the system off, and if I do need to, I can just flip the PSU switch ;) But it does bother me to know it isn't working right and I would like to be able to use the sleep function. I've also had some BSODs lately, no idea if that is related or not.
I'll most likely be switching to a new board entirely and doing a clean install of Windows soon.

Good luck and let me know if you find a solution.

Tomorrow im going you take it out of the case and try it without the case wirings and everything. If it doesnt work then im trying a new PSU. If it doesnt work then im returning it to the shop and buying myself a new mobo. Im going to buy MSI X48 this time around if im not able to fix it. Not going to try ASUS of any P45 chipsets.

So in about 24hours ill let you know;)

Now I have spent 3 hours trying to locate this problem of mine.

I took the mobo, and everything out of the Antec P182 and put it together on the desk, without the case wiring or anything. And it then its all OK.

I also removed the Asus Q-connector on this first boot and shutdown.

Then I started connecting the rest of the equipment, one by one, so Im able to locate the culprit.

And when everything I was able to think of that have been connected to the computer, I was not able to reconstruct the shutdown problem. Everything work as a charm. Before I took it out of the case it didnt work. Now suddenly everything is OK and working perfect.

However I have a couple of thoughts about what it can be.

1. Clearing the CMOS (started with this), and it worked after this so it migth be this easy, however im not sure.

2. The Asus Q-connector from ASUS for the Pwr and reset swith migth have been the culprit also, I migth have missed one of the pins or something. Didnt see anything but i saw how easy it was to miss one of the pins when assembling it again after I was done testing.

3. The Sata controller - I have switched sata ports for the DVD and Harddrive and since this it has been working just fine. Have not tried to switch this back (because I just thougth about it).

4. The Asus Q-connector for USB and 1394 wasnt installed before now, however I didnt experience any trouble when I tried to shutdown with or without it afterwards just to test.

5. Maybe some powercord not connected perfectly (not likely but worth checking).

So Im not sure what did it for me, however it works perfect now, and im just happy this worked itself out;)

No one mentioned the possibility of the board shorting to the mobo tray, check all the nubs or pins soldered through the motherboard, I nip anything that appears long. Look closely at the tray for scratches or burns. I don't generally use the fiber washers but givve them a shot.
