system wide problems

Hello,

I have been having a number of unrecoverable problems with my computer for the past several weeks. It started with random crashing and memory exceptions errors, which were usually followed by OS/registry corruption. I ran the windows memory test thinking that the ram went bad and it cleared. I then took the hard drives out of their RAID configuration, thinking that the motherboard raid controller could have gone bad, but they both caused issues independently.

Now, even after a fresh OS install on one drive or the other, I will still have random crashing, registry corruption, profile resets, hardware detection issues, etc. Even my mouse will suddenly stop working occasionally on boot, and then the system will freeze up completely.

I was told by a friend that my processor heatsink could have lost contact with the cpu, but it appears to be firmly bolted down. So I'm thinking that I may have a motherboard problem, or possibly an issue with RAM and the drives and the mobo. I did recently have my BIOS settings rolled back, so the battery may be dying. I have ruled out overheating as an issue but am unsure how to proceed. Can anyone offer advice?

I'd hate to have to replace the mobo, ram, drives, etc. Thanks!

All of the cables are firmly connected. I'll check the heatsink in a while, but I need more cpu goop. I'm surprised to hear that it could be a power supply problem though. Is there any way to test its stability without replacing it straight away?

Say What?

Sorry for the confusion. I meant to say that I thought the raid controller was broken, so I tried installing Windows on one drive at a time. The first 80GB one failed and then I installed Vista on the second...it failed too.

I keep having wacky problems with the registry getting corrupted for no reason. And occasionally I'll have the keyboard and mouse stop working for no apparent reason. Same with the crashing...

I've eliminated overheating, the video card or a power supply issue. So I'm thinking it has to be the motherboard, the hard drive (s) or my memory.
