System Volume Information folders

I have a dual boot of WIN2k & XP (C & D partitions) and have an E & F partition for applications & media stuff. Now I'm wiping out XP altogether and doing a reinstall so all I want to know is if it's safe to remove the hidden system folders named System Volume Information from each partition? There's one of these folders containing 10MB of data on all 4 partitions... I'm assuming this is from XP's Backup/Restore feature.

Is it safe to delete these if I am removing XP? Thanks.
