System volume control, Audigy 2 ZS without bloatware?

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (flame me at will, audiophiles :D) and recently had to do an OS reinstall, upon which I decided to try installing the drivers only and not Creative's debatably bloaty media playing suite. While I have more free ram, I no longer have an on-screen display of my system volume, as I did with the "bloatware" installed, and of course my remote control no longer works.

1) Can I have the system volume display on screen without their software?

2) I know Foobar and Winamp have remote control plugins to make the remote control work, and i'm sure there are a few decent video players out there with one, but I like controlling the volume via the system volume & not through each program seperately. Can I make the remote work with the system volume, instead of simply that of individual media playing programs?

3) I'm considering getting a more musical sound card in addition to my Audigy, perhaps the Chaintech one, or maybe I'll spring for an M-Audio Revolution. How does system volume work when the system has two sound cards? Assuming I could get the remote to work with only one sound card without installing Creative's software, would system volume function the same for winamp/foobar or for movies if I'm outputting their sound to the second sound card?

Appreciate any advice/experience, thanks in advance.

What I mean is with the Creative software installed, anytime you change the volume a large volume display momentarily shows on the bottom of the screen, like most TVs made in the past 10-15 years. Not a necessity, but it's nice.

for having remote support without creative drivers, try a program called uice. As For the volume on your screen, try running cthelper.exe and rcman.exe from your audigy folder in program files.
