I use Mozilla Firefox & Internet Explorer on my old Dell laptop (Inspiron 2500, Celeron 900Mhz, 512MB PC100 RAM).

Lately, Firefox has been hogging a ton of resources - my CPU Usage approaches 100% and the system is as slow as molasses. Internet Explorer, however, has been working just fine - very snappy.

I ran Adaware & Spybot - nothing serious was found. Registry Mechanic found no issues. Avast found no viruses. I also did a system restore to a few days ago when everything was working fine - the system is still very slow.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know - I am stuck with this laptop for now with no upgrades for the near future. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have to tried uninstalling Firefox and installing the latest version ? Backup your bookmarks before you do.
Possibly turning off any extensions ?

I did that last night - I uninstalled Firefox 1.5 and installed Firefox 2.0. No improvement.

Update : I disabled tab browsing and everything works just fine now. What I find odd, however, is that all was fine even with tab browsing in firefox. Only recently did it start acting weird. Oh well - beggers can't be choosers, I guess ;)
