System upgrade suggestion

Going to get a big LCD (2405fpw maybe?). Could you guys provide some upgrade suggstions? I'd like to keep as many old parts as possible. Right now am just thinking about upgrade the vid card (had a thread here). Thank you!

looking at your other thread i saw your budget was 150. is that still the case? you should get the 6600gt, but still dont know how well that would run games with the 2405fpw. maybe upgrade the processor. is this being used for gaming, or just lite use? if its for gaming, you'd be better off getting a smaller lcd, or a whole new computer.

What I thought originally is just to upgrade the vid card. But I don't wanna put 150 bucks for an obsolete system, so dunno what to do at this point...
According to past experience, such kind of upgarde usually results in a new system purchase, which my wife doesn't wanna see it happen. Any suggestions?
BTW, I don't play games much now. In any event, seems to me the cpu wouldn't be a bottleneck. Thank you, guys!

ok you're getting a $1000 monitor (w/tax + shipping). why don't u drop down to a decent 19" monitor for $300-325 (w/tax + shipping) and upgrade your computer altogether? you can get a amd 3700 SD core + mobo for $400. that leaves you with ~300. you can get a pretty good graphic card with that or just save it. why do you need the 24" monitor?

Good point, alimoalem. I saw it somewhere the other day that you can get 2405fpw for around 750 bucks. Now for me, the computer speed is not the utter most important. But I love BIG screen, and it's also going to be useful for my daily work. So my preference now is: 1) vid card 2) add another gig memory. What else do you guys recommend?
