I've had my system for a while now but am thinking of upgrading my RAM memory to boost performance. My system specs as below:

AMD Athlon64 Winchester 3000+
DFI LanParty Ultra-D NF4
Corsair Value 1GB (512x2)
Leadtek PX 6600GT TDH PCIE
Hauppauge PVR250
Seagate Barracuda SATA 200GB
NEC 3520A DVD
Pioneer CRW-F1 CD
Mitsumi 7 in 1 Floppy
OCZ Powerstream 420W
Sony SDM-HS93 19" LCD
Windows XP MCE2005
Coolermaster Wave Master (Silver)

My questions are:
1. Will an upgrade in memory significantly upgrade performance? I don't use a lot of memory heavy apps but there are the occassional times when notice a bit of lag.

If a memory upgrade isn't going to boost performance what is the best way to go about my situation, should I consider upgrading some other part of the system?

2. If upgrade is recommended, how much memory should I get? Which kind (specs)? What brand? Please give me recommendations with specific model numbers. This is confusing for me and I don't want to get memory that doesn't fit or work properly. My manual says I can get any of these memory - DDR266, DDR333, DDR400, DDR, SDRAM, DIMM.

3. Probably unrelated but I've been experiencing a lot of weird MCE video problems lately. I'll be watching TV (live or recorded) through MCE and all of a sudden (random) the frame freezes and only audio will continue. The only way to get video back is to restart the computer. When this happens all video, even in other video programs, will not work properly. The only picture I'll get is a pink-purple-green type of signal but with normal audio. Why is it doing this? How do I fix it? BTW, I have the Hauppauge video drivers installed (I think that's what gives me the audio & video signals).
