Okay so here's the run down. I've been running an XP Mobile 2500+ for about a year now. I previously had mis-matched sticks of PC3200 Crucial and XMS 512 DIMMS. In anticipation of going with a socket 939 setup in the very near future I picked up a set of XMS PC4000 512 DIMMS. Since I've put them in my system is wildly unstable, apps and windows itself all crashing. I've tried bumping and dropping voltages on both CPU and RAM, nothing helped. My system detected tigher timing then the ram was cert at (3-3-3-8 and stock was supposed to be 3-4-4-8) so I loosened it up. I'm stumped, anyone have any help for me on this one?

One last thing, ran mem-test this morning for 3 full passes and no errors.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out on this one, maybe my board just doesn't like the ram?

Well I solved the problems. They were in this order:

1) I had bent a pin out on one of my DIMM slots and it was laying accross the bottom of the channel, which was allowing it to arc out in to the opposite side. (this was causeing the blue screens and reboots)

2) Ease up on the timings and ramp the voltage a smidge.

3)Updated bios. Found an article on Corsair's web site that recommeneded it. Didn't make sense at the time but it solved the problem.

After all that mess it's rock solid now. I was getting to the point though where I was ready to throw that thing out the window.
