System unstable in 3D games - Please help!!

Every time I play a 3D game my system crashes. When trying to run 3D Mark 2000, the system hard locks during the helicopter test. It doesn't matter if using Win 98 or 2000 (dual boot). Must be a setting somewhere or a problem with the way I've set the system up.

System configuration:

Epox 8KHA+ mb - latest bios
1400 thunderbird
512 MB Crucial 2100
Radeon 8500
Santa Cruise sound card
modem

Using the latest video drivers and 4 in 1 drivers for both OS's. Before installing the video drivers, I uninstalled the old drivers first. 4 in 1's were installed over the top of the old version.

Any ideas?

What kinda power supply you got ??

Power supply is Antec 400 Watt'er. Not sure if PCI configuration could make the system crash but if it matters the sound card is in slot 6 and the modem is in slot 3. Bios settings are "optimized defaults".

and what temp is yur cpu running at ??

Heatsink is Alpha 8045 with Delta 80 mm fan.
