Hello, before i state my problem let me give u a rundown of my system specs.

3.2 p4, 1gb corsair xms, BFG 6800 gt oc, Gigabyte GA-8knxp, windows xp pro

Ill start from the begining

I was actually watching a divx movie when BSplayer performed an illegal op. I then retsrated the movie and then while watching it everything froze for a split second. The computer stayed on but i lost all video signal. The moniter wouldnt display anything.

I automatically figured it was the vid card, but i swapped it out for my brothers video card and it worked for a second but then gave me a blue screen message. I couldnt read it because the computer promptly shut down. After that i would once again get no signal to moniter when i turn my system on. Just to double check i brought my 6800gt and put it into my bros comp...and it worked perfectly in his, so it cant be the vid card.

After that i swapped out my ram for a pair of kingston value ram 512's. I put them in......and bam it works. So i figure its the ram and one or both of my crucial xms's are shot. To test I took out the kingston and put 1 stick of crucial back in....it worked.....i put the other stick in (by itself)...it worked....I put both crucials in...it worked again....This didnt make sense to me but the kingston ram wasmy brothers so i gave it back to him and hoped everything would work out fine...we all know how quirky computers can be......

10 Minutes later i get a blue screen telling me windows must shut down to prevent an error blah blah. I figured ok so the curcial is quirky with my mobo but they do work...ill give these to my bro and ill take the kingston value ram......I put the the crucial ones into my bros comp....and its been running smooth for 2 hours...i put the kingston in mine..and once again. it doesnt work....even with the kingston in there

edit: to clear things up my system actually turns on......just no signal to moniter it seems

guys.....this isnt making sense to me. What should i do? :(

thanks in advance

make sure the RAM is clicked in properly
Take it out then click it in again.
Try again
Try in different slots.
Does the RAM have to be in specific slots for that mobo? check the mobo manual

what voltage was it running at?
what psu have you got?

some ppl say to try rubbing an eraser U.S, or rubber U.K on electrical contacts to dissipate a build up of static. Some say not to.
I think it might be worth trying that on the RAM, but make sure you blow off any bits that are hanging round and leave for a few seconds before plugging in again

my psu is an antec true control 550

the ram was running at the default voltage...i guess ill tery the eraser thing....

its worth mentioning that when my system boots up it makes a little "beep" noise and then goes to town. With this problem...the beep never comes.....

so it seems like everything is turning on and has power but its not booting at all (cant even get into bios)......should i reset cmos? would that do anything?

Hold on if you do get into BIOS:
The default voltages are a little too low.

Try upping the voltage to 2.7/2.8v
Usually, default is around 2.5v

Anyway,

Take out or completely disconnect everything apart from the cpu/power/ram.
What happens?

well...i would do that but.. i tried to turn on my comp and for chance it worked.

after 5 seconds in windows the system totally froze up...

i rebooted thinking wi would get no bootup again like normal but it did....but my computer booted into dual bios utility(my mobo has this feature). I dont know much about it but i guess it has a back up bios for emergency....well it says updating bios and not to restart...but its been frozen for a long time now...so i might have to.

im getting ready to put my fist through this thing.... if its still froze at like 8 o lock im going to turn it off. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

I had sort of the same problem as you. Sometimes my computer would boot into windows and other times I would get a message on my moniter telling me it wasn't getting a signal. Well after messing around with every possible configuration I decided to try a new motherboard and everything has worked fine since.

ok just tell me one dmore thing...

if u had to bet would u say its the mobo or psu? those are the only 2 things i havnt ripped out/been able to replace.....

i have a strong psu but i know they can do weird stuff when they are startying to fail...and it can def also be the mobo.

try disconnect everything as i suggested before it worked well for 5 seconds - might save you some money

Its a valid troubleshooting method for unknown hw probs.
