System tray icons missing

Does anyone know why sometimes when I turn my computer on, some of the icons in the system tray don't show up? It's weird because they usually appear, but sometimes they just decide not to show. What can cause this? Is it some registry setting? I'm using Windows XP SP3.

One thing you can try is wait about 1 minute to login after you see the logon box.
